Kadambur Raju, Information and Publicity minister of Tamil Nadu announced today that going ahead all the online booking platforms should only charge internet fee for a single ticket, no matter how many tickets are booked in one online transaction. The prevalent practice is charging Rs. 30 per ticket in addition to the basic charge and implementing the new rule would mean a substantial decrease in movie ticket rates for the audience of Tamil cinema.
Raju who only recently proposed a complete online ticket booking system for theaters in Tamil Nadu has also said that both these rules will be implemented by the end of this month, starting from multiplex and high-end theater screens. It is to be seen how theater owners react to this new proposition, given they were unimpressed the first time itself.
