Movies This Week: Content-driven films rule theater screens!

Films this week are content-rich and so the releases across languages have each performed well, making it to our top recommendations list. A detailed look into the movies that have occupied theater screens this time around:


  • Sindhubaadh (Tamil) : The story of a petty thief setting out to save his love-interest from an overseas flesh trade mafia, Sindhubaadhstars Vijay Sethupathi and his real life son as the 'street-smart duo' who carry out the deed. The film has garnered mixed reviews from both the critics and the audience (Review Here)

 

  • Dharma Prabhu (Tamil) : A mythological comedy starring Yogi Babu as 'Yama' - the God of Death, Dharma Prabhu is the actor's first film as a lead and has been criticized for not having a gripping narrative. (Review Here)

 

  • Jiivi (Tamil) : A pleasant surprise this week, Jiivi is a crime thriller which stars 8 Thottakkal hero Vetri in the lead. The movie is about a brainiac school-dropout deciding to carry out a robbery and is one of out top recommendations to be watched in theaters this week. (Review Here)

 

  • House Owner (Tamil) : Another lesser publicized film which has done extremely well this week, House Owner is the story of an elderly couple looking back at their solid marriage while encountering a natural calamity in their present life. The movie has been deemed a mature and hard-hitting film that deserved to be given a try. (Review Here)
  
  • Annabelle Comes Home (English) : The third film in the Annabelle horror series, the possessed doll from the conjuring universe has returned to spook a 10 year old girl and her surroundings this time. The movie has opened to mixed reviews.
  
  • Brochevarevaru Ra (Telugu) : A comic caper based on the lives of an actress (Nivetha Pethuraj) and a director (Sathyadev), crossing paths with that of three students, the movie is a light-hearted entertainer that comes across as simple and endearing.   • Article 15 (Hindi) : Mulk director Anubhav Sinha is back with another hard-hitting tale, this time based on the caste divide and starring Ayushmann Khurrana. Inspired from real life incidents and currently garnering a lot of attention for highlighting some grim truths, the film revolves around an IPS officer trying to solve the murder and missing case of 3 young girls, in the village he is posted to.   • Luca (Malayalam) :  A love tale between two unique characters, the movie narrates the story of Luca, Niharika and an investigation connected to them, The film has garnered average reviews from the critics and the viewers.
