Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha starrer 96 movie which hit the screens yesterday opened to rave reviews from both audience and critics alike. The film has grossed Rs. 47 lakhs in Chennai City alone.

The early morning special shows were cancelled due to financial issues. Vijay Sethupathi intervened and sorted out the issue by giving Rs. 4 cr to the financiers funding the project to release the film without further troubles. According to reports, the actor has paid money which is more than the remuneration he received for acting in the film.

Mani Ratnam's Chekka Chivantha Vaanam which got a fantastic opening last week has retained most of its screens in its second week. Vijay Sethupathi's 96, Vishnu Vishal's Ratsasan and Vijay Devarakonda's NOTA which released this week were able to get only limited number of screens. 

Touted to be about two long-lost lovers trying to find closure for their break-up during a school reunion, 96 stars Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha in the lead roles. The film is directed by cinematographer turned director Prem Kumar.
