With Parimala and Co now set to open on June 5 after a slight delay from its original May 28 date, director Pandiraaj has been speaking candidly about criticism and box office success in the same breath.
In a recent interview with Indiaglitz, the director pointed to Thalaivan Thalaivii as proof that reviews and audience verdict are two very different things. The Vijay Sethupathi and Nithya Menen starrer was met with a flood of negative reviews on release but went on to become the highest-grossing film in both Vijay Sethupathi's and Pandiraaj's careers, surpassing even the collections of Kadaikutty Singam. "When people like a film, no matter how many negative reviews you give, audiences will still come and watch it," he said plainly.
Pandiraaj's broader point was equally direct: audiences make up their own minds. "Just like they decide what food they want to eat, they also decide whether they want to watch a film or not. The audience decides who becomes a leader."
Parimala and Co stars Urvashi, Jayaram, Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, Ananthika Sanilkumar, Mysskin, Yogi Babu, Sandy, and Santosh Sobhan. It is produced by Lyca Productions, Tamilkumaran Productions, and Pandiraaj's Pasanga Productions.
