Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu has offered a rare and candid glimpse into Silambarasan TR's commitment to Arasan, director Vetri Maaran's much-anticipated film set in the Vada Chennai universe, in a recent interview.
Thanu revealed that STR had grown his hair for nearly a year for another project but set it aside entirely after hearing the story of Arasan, changing his look and fully inhabiting the character. Pushing back strongly against criticism of the actor's professionalism, Thanu said STR would arrive an hour early to every shoot call and never once came late. "I really don't understand why people speak negatively about that boy," he said, describing him as a single-take artist who has completely surrendered himself to the film. Even a health setback during the Kovilpatti schedule did not slow him down, with STR returning after treatment and continuing to perform brilliantly.
Thanu offered a tantalising tease of what lies ahead, saying Vetri Maaran is sculpting the film like a masterpiece and that just one look from STR on screen carries immense impact. He predicted Arasan would mark a massive transformation in the actor's career.
The film is currently in its second Chennai schedule, with a third schedule on ECR expected to feature a large-scale Vada Chennai set. Vijay Sethupathi, reportedly playing a cop, is expected to join during that leg. The cast also includes Priyanka Mohan, Samuthirakani, Andrea, Ameer, Kishore, and Yogalakshmi. A Deepavali theatrical release is being targeted.
