After a brief pause, Vetri Maaran's highly anticipated directorial Arasan is back on track and shooting in full swing. A massive set is reportedly being erected along ECR to recreate the iconic Vada Chennai milieu for the film's final schedule.

While the project has been generating massive buzz since its announcement and promo release, the makers have kept character details tightly under wraps — until now. It has been confirmed that Vijay Sethupathi plays a cop in the film, while Andrea Jeremiah and Samuthirakani reprise their beloved roles as Chandra and Guna from the Vada Chennai universe.

Adding to the excitement, Yogalakshmi — who impressed audiences with Tourist Family — has officially confirmed her casting as Silambarasan's love interest at a recent awards show. The actress shared her excitement saying, "I play STR's pair in the film. When this role was confirmed, I first informed my mother. She was very happy. I'm very excited."

Kishore is also expected to return in Arasan, with Yogi Babu and Jibin Gopinath rounding up pivotal roles. The film had recently hit a brief roadblock owing to a long-standing dispute between Silambarasan and Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu producer Ishari K Ganesh, but matters were resolved and shooting resumed by end of April.

While Arasan exists in the same universe as Vada Chennai, Dhanush's character Anbu will not feature in it. Interestingly, the film's screenplay is rooted in the script Vetri Maaran had originally written for Vada Chennai when STR was first attached to the project — before Dhanush came on board. The makers describe it as "an untold tale from the world of Vada Chennai." As seen in the promo, Silambarasan will be seen in two avatars — as a young man and as an aged character.
