Jana Nayagan Gets 'A' Certificate After 12 CBFC Cuts - Release Now Imminent

Jana Nayagan has finally been granted its censor certificate after a seven-month battle with the CBFC, receiving an 'A' rating with 12 cuts and modifications. Ahimsa Entertainment, handling UK and Europe distribution, confirmed the certification with the caption "One Last Time," signalling that a theatrical release is now imminent.

The CBFC's changes are extensive. References to Vijay's party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam have been removed, a dialogue featuring "Ambedkar sattam" has been replaced with "TVK sattam," and visuals showing Dr. Ambedkar on a book cover have been modified. A shot of the Indian national flag falling to the ground and a DC office badge being rolled down have also been deleted. The words "Bhagavatham," "Ranganathar," "OM," "New India," "Siluvaila" and "India en kalla vizha vaikaren" have been muted or removed, along with a dialogue referencing the hanging of Saddam Hussein, another expletive-laden line, and the name "Sheela Rani" wherever it appears. Visuals depicting a child being burnt have also been directed to be deleted and replaced.

The CBFC Chairperson had referred the film to a Revising Committee following a complaint alleging objectionable depiction of religious sentiments and the armed forces. The film had also suffered a large-scale piracy leak before certification.

Directed by H Vinoth and backed by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj and Priyamani alongside Vijay.
