TFPC Strike officially ends: Producers & Theatre Owners lay out the outcome

Actor Vishal, president of the Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council made it official today the the 48-day long TFPC strike which he prefers to refer to as ' revamp' has ended. This was followed by the actor and Rohini Screen's Nikhilesh Surya laying out what has been achieved from the strike. Here, along with their inputs we take a look at the outcome of the longest strike in recent times of the history of Tamil Cine industry:

Demands from QUBE (E-Cinema) - outcome
  • Vishal says that the E-cinema rates have been reduced by 50% which was also the core reason this strike began initially. It is worth mentioning here that the reduced E-Cinema rates were brought about much before the blanket-strike from March 16. (details of the reduced QUBE prices here).
  • TFPC had also demanded that QUBE abolish VPF further or that VPF should be borne by Theatre owners and not producers, QUBE transfer ownership of digital projectors to Theatre Owners and that the producers get a share in the ad-revenue that are in control of QUBE. TFPC seems to have dropped these demands unconditionally.

Demands from Theatre Owners - outcome
  • If one may recall, TFPC had suggested computerisation of movie tickets as one of their main demands from Theatre Owners and that seems to have been agreed upon and will be implemented from June, 2018.
  • Rest of the demands which were imposed on QUBE, as an extension imposed on Theatre Owners too (VPF responsibility, share in theatre-ad revenue) and other demands like share in food revenueparking space too have been dropped by TFPC.

Outcome from TN Government - outcome

In addition to all this, TFPC has also signed deals with new players of D-Cinema like Aerox, K Sera Sera and Microplex who promise to provide rates 50% lesser than the existing rates provided by E-cinema.
