Kollywood on a total shut-down: Tamil film industry to have no shoots, events & functions

Only yesterday, we came to you with the news of the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association deciding to go on a strike against the government from March 16, 2018. Now, the Tamil Film Producers Council which are already on a strike against Digital Service Providers from March 1, 2018 have announced that there will be no film shootings, functions or even media related events from March 16, 2018. The drastic measure from the Vishal-led TFPC has been taken as they are demanding the ownership of Digital projectors in movie theatres, which are currently under the control of the service providers.

The TFPC has already come under the scanner for frequent strikes in the last two years. Added to this, media reports indicate that the loss caused due the current 10 day old strike amounts to approximately Rs. 38. 5 crore (average box-office collection of all the Tamil films released per day multiplied by 10), which is already exceeding a year's Virtual Print Fee paid by these films. Also films such as Thalapathy 62 (Vijay), NGK (Suriya) and Viswasam (Ajith) will face a further delay in their shoots, making it difficult for their scheduled Diwali release.

It is worth mentioning here that the Tamil fiolm industry is the only one still fighting against DSPs like QUBE and UFO. The Telugu Film industry withdrew its strike after the Virtual Print Fees were reduced while the Kannda and Malayalam Film industry were in the strike only for a day.
