Tamil film industry strike continues despite withdrawal in Telangana

The south Indian film industries (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam) had announced an indefinite strike from March 1 in protest against the charges levied by Digital Service Providers such as Qube and UFO.

Exhibitors are not part of the strike announced by the Producers Council. Last week (Friday) no new south Indian films were released and the exhibitors had to find ways to keep their business on and to bring the audience to the theatres.

The latest we hear is that the Telugu Film Industry has partially withdrawn the strike. Telangana film industry has decided to withdraw the strike with negotiations with DSPs reaching a positive conclusion. However Andhra Pradesh Film industry is yet to withdraw the strike.

The other film industries (Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam) are also firm in their decision not to withdraw until a favourable solution is obtained to the issue.
