"3" Music Review

Surprises, Surprises and more Surprises -- the feeling you will get as you listen to the songs. There were a number of skeptics questioning as to whether this young team will be able to meet the sky-high expectations set by Kolaveri. The Kolaveri team crushes them all by making the comparisons to Kolaveri irrelevant. Dhanush shows his range in lyrics by writing all but one lyrics in this album. Anirudh shows a lot of maturity and promise with signs of joining the league of top Music Directors soon.

 Idhazhin Oram

Singers: Ajeesh, Anirudh Ravichander

The song works for the tune and the nice mixing of techno-loops. It has good interesting blend of modern sounds and conventional melodious tune nicely sung by Ajeesh. Aishwarya' shows her prowess in writing with seamless mix of English and Tamil lyrics.

 Kannazhaga
Singers : Dhanush, Shruti Haasan

Right when the base guitar-ing starts, you know this song is going to be special. The puppy-love song evokes a sense of retro-feel. The multi-talented Shruti Hasaan grooves to this song so effortlessly. Dhanush is starting to sound like a professional singer and lyricist. This is a brilliant composition by Anirudh and tugs your heart. Near perfect song of the album.

 Come On girls

Singers: Anirudh Ravichander, Nadisha Thomas, Maalavika Manoj

This song will satisfy the intense Kolaveri fans as Dhanush continues the funny light-hearted lyrics. The biggest plus of the song is the unpredictable usage of instruments and it actually works!. Even the mundane 'la la la la' fits in nicely.

Nee Partha Vizhigal - The touch of love

Singers: Vijay Yesudas, Swetha Mohan

The song is well within the comfort zone of Vijay Yesudas. Tunewise, it flows nicely. But, it may not make you sit up during the first few listens due to the brilliance of other spectacular songs overshadowing this one. A melody that is expected to work within the context of the movie.

 Po Nee Po

Singers: Mohit Chauhan, Anirudh Ravichander

A song of restrained anguish has been superbly composed and the lyrics are poetic, impressive sophisticated lyrics from Dhanush - a far cry from the 'Adida Avala' days. The song starts with beautiful piano notes. Mohit Chauhan is both the best and not-so-good part of this song. 'Rockstar' fame Mohit Chauhan's voice has a great range and makes you think nobody else could have brought the anguish better. At the same time, it is difficult to ignore the pronunciation which sticks out like a sore thumb in a few places.

Bottomline: This dream debut by Anirudh is mighty impressive. The director Aishwarya D should be commended for her vision. She has given Anirudh and Dhanush the freedom to explore in music and lyrics. Anirudh has proven that 'Kolaveri' was no fluke.  The music is fresh, experimental and delightful - worth buying.
