Actor Suriya had officially announced the title of his 43rd film to be (1965) Puranaanooru on October 26, 2023. Puranaanooru marked Suriya's second collaboration with his Soorarai Pottru director Sudha Kongara, as a lead actor. Actors Dulquer Salmaan, Nazriya Fahadh were also revealed to be part of Puranaanooru's cast, and GV Prakash was composing music for this movie. 

Suriya's production house 2D Entertainment which was backing Puranaanooru, has now released a statement from director Sudha Kongara, Suriya on its letterhead, which confirms a film delay. Actor Suriya and director Sudha Kongara shared the statement on their official X handles, and it reads, 

 

"Dear All,

Puranaanooru requires more time. This collaboration is very special and close to our hearts. We are working towards giving you our best. We will be going on floors very soon.

Thank you for your constant love and support."

Touted to be set around the 1965 anti-Hindi agitation of Tamil Nadu, Puranaanooru was to showcase Suriya as a revolutionary college student, and Dulqer Salmaan as his brother. Nazriya Fahadh was to play female lead in the movie.
