Jailer: All that's happening around Rajinikanth's film

Sun Pictures produced Jailer starring 'Superstar' Rajinikanth in the lead is all set to release in theaters worldwide from August 10, 2023. Promotions are in full-swing for the movie, and recently the makers promoted the film via a huge digital banner at Times Square, New York. 

Added to this, a poster featuring Mollywood star Mohanlal who appears in a cameo role named Mathew has also been unveiled by Jailer makers. Mohanlal's Mathew character was not not included in the trailer that had released as 'Jailer Showcase', although he did make an appearance in the Jailer teaser that was unveiled as 'release date announcement video'.  

In a recent interaction with the Malayalam media, Mohanlal has said that that his character in Jailer will be an interesting one; He wants it to be a surprise till the film's release so that fans can be impressed when they see him on screen.


Along with Mohanlal, key star actors like Shivarajkumar who plays villain in Jailer, and Tamannaah Bhatia who plays a Telugu actress in Jailer had only appeared in the teaser and not trailer of the movie. While Tamannaah has had a full song release titled Kaavaalaa [Telugu song title because she plays a Tollywood actress], it remains to be seen if Shivarajkumar will soon be appearing in a dedicated Jailer poster.  

Jailer is only days away from release. But even before the movie was completed, there was talks of how the movie might be based on actor Sivakarthikeyan's late father G. Doss who was a jailer in real life.  Sivakarthikeyan and Jailer writer, director Nelson Dilipkumar are friends and frequent collaborators. So these talks didn't seem very out of the blue. Added to this, Sivakarthikeyan during Jailer filming was often spotted hanging around the sets and now eagle-eyed fans have noticed a picture of Rajinikanth and Sivakarthikeyan hanging in Jailer trailer. 

Earlier suggestion that director Nelson has based actor Vasanth Ravi's Jailer character on what it would look like if Sivakarthikeyan had followed G Doss' footsteps in becoming an honest and straightforward cop, has currently resurfaced post Jailer showcase release. Jailer has Anirudh for music and the composer seems to have caught the movie early on. His verdict of Jailer on X has gone viral, since the post was put up.

Jailer audio launch event that took place on July 28, 2023 is currently gearing up to be aired on Sun TV Tamil channel this Sunday i.e. tomorrow [August 6, 2023] at 6 PM. A clip of the event where Rajini is seen speaking about how team Jailer had wanted to rope in a bigger artist (than Vinayakan) for the main antagonist role, reveals that it was actor Mammootty (from director Nelson's lip movements seen on screen).

Rajinikanth and Maammootty had famously shared screen space in the 1991 cult hit Thalapathi, written and directed by Mani Ratnam. Fans of the duo have since awaited a reunion but it hasn't happened as yet. Jailer censored U/A comes with a runtime of  168. 47 minutes i.e. 2 hours 48 minutes 47 seconds. The movie is scheduled to release in original Tamil language, and dubbed Telugu, Kannada and Hindi (as Rajini: The Jailer) versions as well.
