Varisu box-office disputed by Tamil Nadu Theater Owners & Multiplex Association President!

M. Subramaniam, also known as Tiruppur Subramaniam is a well known distributor/ president of the Tamil Nadu theater owners and multiplex association. Shockingly, he has openly disputed the box-office claims of Varisu producers and distributors, and has said that there is no way the Rs. 210 Cr. worldwide (WW) gross was calculated this quickly, since the film was released via different distributors across areas.

Tiruppur Subramaniam has also accused 7 Screen Studio, the primary distributor Varisu in Tamil Nadu, of advertising 'big' numbers, just because the banner is producing actor Vijay's next film - Thalapathy 67.

Polimer News quotes M. Subramaniam on the Varisu box-office as saying, "It (Rs. 210 Cr WW gross) is 200% not possible.. Lalith (of 7 Screen Studio) presented (Varisu) in Tamil Nadu alone, that too 5 of the area distribution was given to (Udhayanidhi Stalin's) Red Giant Movies. He (Lalith) might know the remaining areas' collections. That too not this fast. Overseas distribution was done by some other banner. So how come he came to know of the complete collection status of all areas worldwide?"

"If it was a single release, this was worth considering. But (Varisu had) Thunivu as a competitor, which too is having a good run. A collection to the extent claimed by them (Varisu producers Sri Venkateswara Creations and distributors) is not possible..", Subramaniam concluded. It is worth mentioning here that the Rs. 210 Cr. claim was also made by Varisu producer Dil Raju. Even if the producer/distributor angle in Subramaniam's statement was to be discounted, the point about calculating all areas worldwide gross within a short amount of time still holds.

It is also worth mentioning here that this isn't the first time a production/distribution banner has claimed big numbers within a few days of a film's release. Moreover Tiruppur Subramaniam in another interview has also claimed that if one has to know the true box-office collection of Varisu/Thuivu, Lalith Kumar, Dil Raju and Boney Kapoor (respectively) are the right people to ask.
