Indian movie theaters are gearing up for an abundance of Diwali releases across languages, and here is a list of movies that are coming out this holiday season in their order of release:
1. Black Adam (English - October 20, 2022)
A DC super-hero film starring Dwyane 'The Rock' Johnson in the lead, Black Adam is releasing a day earlier in India and sets off the Diwali week of new movie releases in theaters. This American production will be available to watch in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages.
Black Adam is an anti-hero who is unleashed into modern times after 5000 years if imprisonment. The 'Justice Society' comprising of multiple super-heroes try and stop Black Adam's rage and recruit him to find the real villain instead. Also starring Pierce Brosnan, Noah Centineo, Aldis Hidge, Sarah Shahi among others, Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet- Serra.
A spy-action thriller releasing in Tamil, Telugu, Sardar stars actor Karthi in dual roles along with actresses Raashi Khanna, Rajisha Vijayan and Laila among others. The movie depicts the contrast between an intelligence officer named Chandrabose (father Karthi), who has sacrificed 3 decades of his life out of limelight and his social media-crazy police officer son named Vijay Prakash.

A Tamil-Telugu bilingual, Prince starring Sivakarthikeyan in the lead follows the story of a social science school teacher named Anbu who falls in love with his British National colleague named Jessica. Their cultural difference and strong opposition from people of the British-resistant Devanakottai [due to past colonization], leads to a comedy of errors and misfortunes.
Prince is directed by Anudeep and also stars Tamil debutante Maria Ryaboshapka, Sathyaraj, Premgi Amaren among others. [fdfs, censor, runtime and other details of the movie here]
A Telugu remake of the Tamil romantic fantasy Oh My Kadavule (2020), Ori Devuda is also written and directed by Ashwath Marimuthu. The Telugu version stars Vishwak Sen, Mithila Palkar, Asha Bhat and Venkatesh Daggubati among others and follows the life of Arjun who gets a golden ticket from a mysterious man to correct the mistakes in his love life.
5. Ginna (Telugu - October 21, 2022)
October 21, 2022 is one crowded Diwali Friday and one of the four films releasing that weekend is the Telugu film Ginna. The movie is written by Kona Venkat, directed by Eeshaan Suryaah and stars Vishnu Manchu, Payal Rajput, Sunny Leone and Vennela Kishore as lead characters.
Ginna is set in the backdrop of a small town where four childhood friends lead by Ginna run a tent house for their livelihood. The film's story is about Ginna reaching his goal in the game of love and friendship.
An atheist-turned-believer archaeologist must race against time to prove the true existence of the legendary Ram Setu - a bridge built by Lord Ram between India and Srilanka according to Hindu epic Ramayana, and said to be above sea level until 1480. An action adventure, Ram Setu stars Akshay Kumar, Satya Dev, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Nasser, Pravessh Rana, Jeniffer Piccinato amogn others.
The film is written and directed by Abhishek Sharma and produced by Lyca Productions, Amazon Prime Video, Cape of Good Films and Abundantia Entertainment.
Fantasy is a common theme in this year's Diwali releases and Thank God starring Ajay Devgn, Siddharth Malhotra, Rakul Preet Singh among others is one of them. The movie follows the story of a man named Ayan Kapoor, who full of all sins and confusion reaches “Yamlok” where Chitragupt (Ajay Devgn) offers him to play a game of life.
Thank God is directed by Indra Kumar and is a light-hearted comedy also starring Kiku Sharada as Ayan's colleague, Seema Pahwa as Ayan's mother, Urmila Kothare as Ayan's sister and Nora Fatehi in a special remake of the viral Manike song by Srilankan singer Yohani.
8. Gandhadha Gudi - Journey of a True Hero (Kannada - October 28, 2022)
Kannada actor Puneeth Rajkumar's posthumous release, Gandhadha Gudi is a docu-drama starring him and film's director Amoghavarsha JS. The movie is Puneeth's final piece of work to release in theaters and is considered his adieu to his fans.
Puneeth Rajkumar explores the landscapes, floral and fauna of Karnataka in this immersive experience film, and it has cinematography by Pratheek Shetty and music by B Ajaneesh Loknath. The movie is releasing in Kannada, Hindi and English.
