In a rare occurence, a behind the scenes video from the making of Ponniyin Selvan's music was shared by composer A.R. Rahman, and in it director Mani Ratnam could be seen briefing in detail about the kind of music he wants when the emperor (played by Vikram) and Ponniyin Selvan (played by Jayam Ravi) share a frame.

Rahman titled the video "PS PS PS briefing from the master #manirathnam #ponniyinselvan" and presumably he was filming it too.

Ponniyin Selvan I is scheduled to release in Summer next year i.e. May/June 2022. Produced by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies, the film also stars Karthi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Bachchan, Sara Arjun, Shobhita Dhulipala, Jeyaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashwin Kakamanu and Vikram Prabhu among others.
