Ponniyin Selvan: A.R. Rahman diverts the topic of Vairamuthu to Mani Ratnam!

Lyricist Vairamuthu and his presence/absence in Ponniyin Selvan has been a topic of interest for a while now, given that the lyricist was named in MeToo accusations by several women. While the silence on the same from Mani Ratnam (director of Ponniyin Selvan) and composer A.R. Rahman has been conspicuous, the latter recently encountered a question from the media on the subject.

Since the official Ponniyin Selvan poster did not name the film's lyricist [despite Vairamuthu's earlier statement that he had written 12 songs for the film], Rahman was prodded on the actual status of the lyricist's part in the movie. However, A.R.R deflected the question by stating, “You will see who will be writing it (lyrics). We can’t discuss it now. Whatever it may be, Mani Ratnam’s office will announce it,”

It is worth mentioning here that there was a widespread dismay about Vairamuthu's inclusion in the project given the severity of the accusations leveled against him and recently when it was reported that the lyricist is no longer a part of the magnum-opus, it was rejoice galore for those fighting the MeToo cause [including singer Chinmayi, who was the first one to out Vairamuthu].
