Superstar Rajinikanth's Petta Final Box Office Verdict

As successful as 2.0 was (with a box-office collection going somewhere north of Rs. 500 Cr gross), the credit for its dream run were shared equally by Rajinikanth, director Shankar, Akshay Kumar, the brand value of the film's prequel and the technical marvel the film had.


So the success of Petta a movie predominantly shouldered by Rajini, comes as a statement of the powerful box-office hold the Superstar actor enjoys, even after all these years.

Tamil Nadu: Petta which did not exactly fall into family-oriented genre (and going up against one which did) managed to rake Rs. 108 Cr in Tamil Nadu alone, attaining the hit status in the state.

Domestic: The collections from regions like Karnataka and Andhra/Telengana, where Rajini holds a strong base contributed a significant amount and totaled the overall domestic gross to Rs. 155 Cr.
 
Overseas: The film had a good run at overseas territories like USA, Malaysia (despite PG-18 rating) and Australia with the overall box-office collection outside of India coming upto Rs. 71 Cr.

With that, Petta with its lifetime collection of Rs. 226 Cr has become another recent film of Rajinikanth's to join the 200 Cr club at the Worldwide Box Office collections.
