The festive Pongal season in TN begins with the release of Rajinikanth’s Petta and Ajith’s Viswasam tomorrow. It is going to be a solid face-off between two leading stars from Kollywood. Both the films have huge expectations among the trade and audience. The pre-release economics of Petta and Viswasam indicates that Rajinikanth’s film has the upper hand in all territories. However in the home state, both the films have more or less equal dominance in terms of theatre counts, show counts, advance booking etc.

Sun TV holds the satellite rights of both Petta and Viswasam. The hindi satellite and digital rights (Amazon Prime) of Viswasam has been sold for Rs. 13 cr. Both the films have witness solid advance booking at the ticket window. These films will enjoy the biggest festival holiday period of about 11 days (Jan 10 - Jan 20) with six days Pongal holidays locked within two weekends. Petta should mint around Rs. 240 cr and Viswasam around Rs. 140 cr to achieve break even. With the longest holiday period, both the films are likely to make good business at the Box Office and earn good profits for all the stakeholders.
