Movies This Week: Gold shines, so does Geetha Govindam & Kolamaavu Kokila

Owing to the Independence holiday that went by this week, movies didn't wait till the end of the week to hit theatre screens. Though only a few, the releases this time around were all good and deserve to be watched in cinema halls.

  • Gold (Hindi): Keeping with the theme of the bygone holiday, the film features a sports-man turned coach who expresses patriotism through the game that he plays. A sports-drama on hockey, Gold tells the tale of how India bags a Gold at the 1948 Olympics, a year after it becomes independent of the British era. The movie has raked a 62% in our ratings and has been passed off as an engaging watch in our review.

  • Satyameva Jayate (Hindi): This John Abraham starrer is about how a the lead takes on the mission of killing corrupt police officials while an honest DCP (Manoj Bajpayee) wows to track him down. This action entertainer has been criticized for its outdated theme and has raked only a 44% in our movie ratings.

  • Geetha Govindam (Telugu): This rom-com is what everyone is talking about down South for the film has worked like magic with both the critics and the audience. A light-hearted story about a man wanting to settle down in life with a girl who does not reciprocate his feelings is what forms the core of Geetha Govindam. Catch the review of this movie here.

  • Kolamaavu Kokila (Tamil): One of the last films to release this week, Kolamaavu Kokila is a dark comedy with a female protagonist. This Nelson directed has been termed as a 'healthy dosage of laughter' on our review and the film has so far worked well with the viewers as well. Definitely makes it to our must-watch recommendation.
