After Maharashtra, movie theatres in Hyderabad to regulate food prices!

Only a few days ago, the Maharashtra Food Supplies Minister Ravindra Chavan said during an Assembly Session that movie theatres and multiplexes should allow people to carry outside food and packaged food items should be be sold according to their MRPs. It was also believed that the order will come into effect from August 1, 2018 thought he Multiplexes Association of India (MAI) said that they were ready to challenge the order in court at that time.

Now, as though following suit, the controller of Telengana's State Legal Metrology Department [that deals with consumers' protection in terms of weights, measures, etc] Akun Sabharwal, has directed multiplexes and single screen theaters of Hyderabad to sell packaged food items at their MRPs and loose food items [like popcorn and cold-drinks from the fountain] at a rate based on their scale weight. The Metrology  department has also suggested that if people find any breach in these rules starting August 1, they can lodge the complaint on toll-free No180042500333 or WhatsApp No.7330774444.

This isn't the first time the Metrology Department has come up with something this big at Hyderabad.  Last year, the forum fined an INOX theatre in the city with Rs. 5000 after it was complained that they did not allow customers to carry their own water bottles and charged Rs. 50 for a water bottle with an MRP of Rs. 20.
