MovieCrow Box Office Report - March 11 to 13
Vijay Sethupathi is probably enjoying a dream phase of his career, and his Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum, which released last weekend, was off to a roaring start at the box office. Last weekend also saw the release of Vemal's Mapla Singam and the anthology film, Aviyal. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil movies in Chennai during last weekend.
Although the word of mouth and initial reviews were mixed, Kadhalum Kadanthu Pogum took a very good opening, thanks to the charm of Vijay Sethupathi. Madonna has indeed made an impressive debut in Tamil with her pleasing performance. Looks like hat-trick of hits on the cards for Vijay Sethupathi!
2. Pichaikkaran
As predicted, Vijay Antony's Pichaikkaran has turned out to be a hit at the box office. It's a good break for director Sasi too, who was away from the limelight after the promising 555 with Bharath.
3. Mapla Singam
Vemal's Mapla Singam had nothing new to offer and turned out to be yet another rural comedy entertainer. The movie might just not have the firepower to become a hit.
Other Movies
Stone Bench Creations' anthology film - Aviyal took a decent opening across limited number of screens. Interestingly, Vijay Sethupathi's Sethupathi was still running across a few screens, while movies like Pokkiri Raja and Sowkarpettai sank without a trace.
Upcoming week's releases
Jai's Pugazh, Sawaari and few more lesser known films will be hitting the screens on March 18.
