MovieCrow Box Office Report - May 23 to 25
Superstar Rajinikanth's Kochadaiiyaan took a bumper opening on May 23, and almost all the screens replaced their previous films with Kochadaiiyaan. Mayajaal, the largest multiplex in the city, screened as many as 100 shows on the opening day. Check out the box office ranking of Tamil films in Chennai during last weekend (May 23-25).
The critics appreciated the valiant attempt of debutante Soundarya Rajinikanth's vision to introduce motion capture technology in Tamil, while a section of the audience weren't pleased with the visuals. Although the movie took an earth shattering opening, it is too early to predict about the box office status of the movie, considering the budget of the film.
First time director Deekay's screenplay and the smart packaging, with lively performances from the lead characters have made this movie work with the audience. The movie has been getting good patronage from the multiplex audience over the weekend.
3.Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham
Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham has been attracting family audience, in spite of the mixed reviews, thanks to Santhanam. However, the film has been shifted to smaller screens and the occupancy level is also decreasing, when compared to the previous weekends.
Other movies
Vaayai Moodi Pesavum and Maan Karate are still holding on to couple of screens in the city, while movies like Tenaliraman and Ennamo Nadakuthu were taken off the screens to give way for Kochadaiiyaan.
Upcoming week's releases
It is highly doubtful if any movie would take up Kochadaiiyaan in the upcoming weekend. Prakash Raj's Un Samayal Arayil and Vemal's Manja Pai will be hitting the screens on June 6.
