Vishnuu Vishal is gearing up for the release of Gatta Kusthi 2, his first ever sequel and a reunion with director Chella Ayyavu following the success of the 2022 original. In a recent interview with Galatta, the actor-producer opened up about the missed sequel opportunities that defined much of his earlier career.
He recalled how plans for sequels to Indru Netru Naalai, Mundasupatti, Ratsasan, and even FIR — produced under his own banner — never came to fruition, leaving him frustrated at the time. Gatta Kusthi 2, he revealed, wasn't originally conceived as a sequel either. Chella Ayyavu had approached him with a fresh story idea, and it was Vishnuu Vishal who suggested they turn it into a follow-up to Gatta Kusthi, having never had a part two for any of his films before.
The sequel brings back Vishnuu Vishal and Aishwarya Lekshmi as Veera and Keerthi, along with Kaali Venkat, Karunaas, Munishkanth, Lizie Antony, Gajaraj and Sreeja Ravi reprising their roles. New additions to the cast include Ramya Krishnan and Yogi Babu as Raja Rajeshwari and Balbir Singh, along with Karunakaran, Mokksha and child actor Zara Zyanna.
The film features an entirely new technical team, with Sean Roldan composing the music, Bhaskaran KM behind the camera, Barath Vikraman editing, and Jayachandran S as art director. Vishnuu Vishal co-produces under his own banner alongside Ishari K Ganesh's Vels Film International. Gatta Kusthi 2 is scheduled to release in theatres on July 3.
