Dream Warrior Pictures, the banner behind Kaithi (2019), has filed a lawsuit in the Bombay High Court against the makers of its Hindi remake Bholaa, alleging violations related to remake rights.
According to reports, Dream Warrior Pictures had entered into agreements with an entity under the Reliance group for the Hindi remake rights. A formal remake rights agreement was signed in February 2023 with Reliance Entertainment, under which the production house was to receive a fixed assignment fee in multiple tranches.
However, Dream Warrior claims that only an initial payment of ₹1 crore (plus GST) was made in 2022, while subsequent payments due in April and May 2023 were not fulfilled. Before these payments were completed, a tripartite agreement involving Reliance and Ajay Devgn Films LLP was reportedly executed, granting all three parties rights, with exploitation rights retained by Reliance.
After initially approaching the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), which dismissed the plea in August 2025, Dream Warrior Pictures has now filed an intellectual property suit on March 22. The suit seeks to restrain the concerned parties from monetising Bholaa and calls for termination of prior agreements, with full rights reverting back to Dream Warrior.
The case also names platforms and entities including Prime Video, Zee Cinema, and T-Series. The production house is further seeking damages, including profits and revenues generated from the film and its derivative content.
Kaithi, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, starred Narain, George Maryan, Arjun Das, and Dheena, and followed a high-stakes night involving a massive drug bust.
Its Hindi remake Bholaa, directed by and starring Ajay Devgn, featured Tabu, Gajraj Rao, and Sanjay Mishra in key roles.
