Tamil star actor Rajinikanth, who is currently awaiting the release of Vettaiyan on October 10, 2024, has been hospitalized in an unexpected turn of events. The soon to be 74 year old was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai Monday i.e. September 30, 2024 evening between 7: 30 PM - 8:00 PM. Rajini is set to undergo an elective cardiac procedure at the cath lab of the hospital on Tuesday i.e. October 1, 2024 morning between  6: 00 AM - 6: 30 AM.

Reportedly, Rajini returned to Chennai on September 28, 2024 after shooting for the Lokesh Kanagaraj directed Coolie at Vishakapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. The Superstar had been experiencing back pains and other issues, due to a swelling in his lower abdomen. Two-three weeks ago, Rajini consulted medical experts, and planned for this cardiac procedure at the Apollo Hospital in Nungambakkam, Chennai.

Dr Sai Sathish of Apollo Hospital is performing this elective cardiac procedure (not a surgery) on Rajinikanth. The doctors have currently deemed Rajinikanth's condition to be stable, and are expected to release an official health update on the Tamil star actor post procedure. 

It is also said the Dr Sai Sathish, who is an interventional cardiologist will decide on the course of treatment for Rajini's lower abdomen swelling, once this elective cardiac procedure is done. Rajinikanth is expected to stay hospitalized for 2-3 days post the procedure.
