Officially announced in November 2022 as Kamal Haasan's 234th film, Thug Life written by Kamal Haasan, Mani Ratnam, and directed by Mani Ratnam is an upcoming Tamil language action drama. The movie marks Kamal Haasan and Mani Ratnam's reunion since their iconic Nayagan (1987), and comes with an ensemble of Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Gautham Karthik, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Abhirami, Nassar, and Joju George. 

Malayalam star actor Dulquer Salmaan recently dropped out of Thug Life owing to scheduling conflicts, and currently the team is on the lookout for a replacement. Owing to the same, and Kamal Haasan's political commitments, the Serbia schedule of Thug Life has been pushed past the General Lok Sabha elections in India, which is set to be held between April 19, 2024 and June 1, 2024. 

The Thug Life video unveiled in November 2023 revealed Kamal Haasan's character name to be Rangaraya Sakthivel Nayakar. Now reports add that Kamal Haasan will be seen in three different looks in the movie.
