Rajinikanth at Lal Salaam Audio Launch: Please put a full stop to Rajini Vs Vijay, Kaaka Vs Kazhugu

On a fateful evening of July 28, 2023 [Friday], 'Superstar' Rajinikanth was addressing a gathering at Chennai that was there to witness the audio launch of his then upcoming movie Jailer. The Jailer audio launch arranged by film's producers Sun Pictures was an invite-only event, and it went on to be telecast to the public only on August 6, 2023 [not known at that time], close to Jailer's release on August 10, 2023.

 

However even before the Jailer audio launch event could end on July 28, 2023, false testimonies that Rajinikanth had bad-mouthed actor Vijay, and that the senior star had taken a dig on his now contemporary, has started floating the X platform. Most of these testimonies were taken at face value by both Rajinikanth and Vijay fans, leaving the latter furious and the former assuming that Rajini was 'finally giving it back'.

 

Rajinikanth's "slander of Vijay" was however proven to be far from the truth when MovieCrow released a word-to-word transcript of Rajinikanth's Jailer audio launch speech on July 31, 2023 [Monday]. But the damage had already been done, and fans on both sides were knee-deep in a war of expletives to back down anytime soon.

 

For a speech that never once mentioned the word Vijay, it came to be known as the birthplace of Vijay and his league being branded as 'Kaakas' (crows). This is despite Rajinikanth's Kaaka - Kazhugu (Crow - Eagle) story having nothing to do with actor Vijay. The Jailer audio launch's telecast on Sun TV, with Rajinikanth's full speech as demanded by fans, did nothing to alter this altercation.

 

Actor Vijay may or may not have played into this a little bit, when during the Leo success meet in November 2023, the star did this.  Leo's dialogue writer Rathna Kumar on the other hand threw open shade at Rajinikanth at the same event when he said, "No matter how high an eagle flies, it needs to come down when hungry". All this for Rajinikanth saying that everyone faces hatred and opposition in life just like he did in 1977, so one should learn to stay afloat and on course like an eagle, even though the crows aka the haters keep poking or triggering to get a reaction out of you. 

 

Rajinikanth will next be seen in a special appearance under his daughter Aishwarya Rajinikanth's direction in Lal Salaam. Lal Salaam's audio launch event took place on January 26, 2024 and Rajini ensured in his speech to clarify that his Jailer audio launch speech was not about actor Vijay. In quite the Superstar manner, Rajinikanth said, 

 

"...It (Jailer audio launch speech) was misinterpreted differently as though I had spoken about (actor) Vijay. It was projected like that a lot on social media. This truly bothers me. Because Vijay is a boy who grew up in front of my eyes.  When I was shooting for Dharmathin Thalaivan (1988) at his house, Vijay would have been around 13-14 years of age. He was watching (the shoot) from above and (SA) Chandrasekhar (Vijay's father) introduced him once the shoot was over. SAC said 'this is my son. he is very interested in acting. you please tell him to finish his studies first and then come to acting.' At that time I had told Vijay. 'you study then you can become an actor'. After that Vijay not just became an actor but step by step with his discipline, talent and hard-work, he is in a position that is way on top. Now he is entering politics next and is interested in social service. Now to say that there is competition between me and Vijay is truly a heart-breaking thing to hear. 

 

Vijay himself has said he is his own competition, I have also said that for my films I am the competition.  If I think 'Vijay is my competition' then it is not respectable or reputable for me.  If Vijay thinks 'Rajinikanth is my competition' then it is not respectable or reputable for him. Please, even fans, don't compare us like this. Don't do this Kaaka-Kazhugu story. Please stop this. This is my affectionate request. Please. Thank you so much. 

 

It is worth mentioning here that even back in July, 2023 after completing his Kaaka-Kazhugu story, Rajinikanth had predicted that it would be misinterpreted by the media and social media. However for an actor of his stature to give a clarification on a public platform about something he said with no malice 6 months ago, explains the levels to which his speech has been spawned.
