Vetrimaaran directed Viduthalai: Part 1 released in theaters on March 31, 2023 and marked the debut of actor Soori in a lead role. The movie also marked the first full-fledged serious role for Soori, who has only done comedy roles so far.  Not only has Viduthalai received critical acclaim (as is expected of 'brand' Vetrimaaran), the film has also done extremely well at the box-office.

The day 1 collection of Viduthalai: Part 1 is said to be Rs. 5 Cr. This number is huge for Soori, considering this is the actor's first film where he was shouldering the box-office output as well.
