We had previously reported that Ajith plays a cop in his upcoming action thriller Valimai and that he takes on a bunch of illegal bike racers in the movie. This was later confirmed via the glimpses of Valimai video and now director H. Vinoth has revealed more details about the film's story.

In an interview with the Times of India, H. Vinoth has been quoted on Valimai's story as stating, "We see youngsters and what kind of problems that they and their families are facing today. I have taken two such problems..What if those problems happened to the hero’s family? How would they face it? How does he, as the head of the family, tackle it? How his personal and professional lives get affected by this and how he overcomes this forms the plot.."

The director further added, "The crimes in our society aren’t complicated; they are mainly social crimes. So, while you need not be a genius, you need to have intelligence to know how our system operates, and this (Ajith's) character is someone who has those smarts."

H. Vinoth has also confirmed that Huma Qureshi plays Ajith's teammate in the movie, who is part of his investigation. Valimai is scheduled to release in theaters for Pongal, 2022. The film is produced by Boney Kapoor, Zee Studios and has Yuvan Shankar Raja for music.
