Doctor Preview - SWOT Analysis

In the last 6 months, theaters in Tamil Nadu have not seen any big releases, mainly because the screens were shut for four of them. Sivakarthikeyan's Doctor directed by Nelson Dhilipkumar is the first movie to be anticipated on the big screen in these times, and it releases tomorrow i.e. October 9, 2021. Here's a quick SWOT analysis of the film:

Strengths

• The movie is directed by Nelson Dhilipkumar, who though only a film old is a promising director who has reached the ranks of directing stars like Vijay. His last thriller had a unique concept and tight execution and the same is expected of Doctor too.

• Doctor is head-lined by Sivakarthikeyan, a crowd-favourite across all ages.

• Anirudh's chartbusters and background score are another thing to look forward to on the big screen.

Weakness

• The movie that has waited almost 7 months for release and most of the plot details are out by now. The trailer of the film also seemed to hold nothing back, though some believe there might be story twists waiting for them on the big screen. 

Opportunities

• Doctor is releasing at a time when fully vaccinated viewers are ready for something to lap up to in theater screens. Sivakarthikeyan is also in need of a much-needed memorable hit.

• The movie has little to no box-office competition. Albiet at 50% seating capacity, there is potential for setting the cash registers ringing - a sound theater owners haven't heard much in 2021.

Threats

• Two years into the pandemic and theaters are yet to witness families, Sivakarthikeyan's strongest fan-base walking up to the counter. Pulling in theater-audience depends completely on the initial word-of-mouth.

• Movie piracy has increased like never before this pandemic era. Even films releasing on other platforms post theatrical have difficulty making it unscathed. 

Doctor also releases in Telugu as Varun Doctor and comes with an ensemble of Vinay Rai, Priyanka Arul Mohan, Yogi Babu, Milind Soman, Archana Chandokee, Ilavarasu, Deepa Shankar among others.
