Before Vijay's Master hit theater screens on January 13, 2021, footages from the movie were illegally recorded on a camera phone and leaked on the internet. The leak was then traced back to Sony Digital Cinemas (SDC), and the miscreant responsible for Master leaks was found to be an employee at the company. 

Seven Screen Studio, the banner which presented Master had made its intentions of pressing charges clear back then. Now, producer Lalith Kumar is said to have sent a notice to SDC seeking Rs. 25 Cr. in compensation for the damage.
