After the Tamil Nadu Theater and Multiplex Owners Association warned that in the event of Ponmagal Vandhal releasing on OTT directly, all Suriya movies will be banned from theaters,around 30 film producers from Kollywood have issued a joint statement in favour of the actor-producer. Names like  T. Siva, TG Thyagarajan, S Sashikanth, CV Kumar and Bharathiraja stand in support of a statement that reads,

“The film industry should consider OTT platforms as an opportunity for small and medium-budget films and encourage it. Many producers can get their investment through this..Moreover, small films choosing streaming platforms for their release will help reduce the competition to secure more screens..

 

For the industry to flourish, producers, exhibitors and distributors should work hand-in-hand and take decisions. Post the lockdown, all the concerned parties shall discuss and come up with a framework for the release of films on OTT platforms.”

Ponmagal Vandhal starring Jyotika in the lead is a production venture of Suriya's 2D Entertainment and prior to the Coronavirus pandemic, it had plans of having a theatrical release on March 27, 2020. Now, it is expected to release on Amazon Prime Video directly.
