Red card for Suriya & his films in Tamil Nadu Theaters!

The decision to release Jyotika starrer Ponmagal Vandhal directly on OTT platforms, may have irked the Tamil Nadu Theater and Multiplex Owners Association for its General secretary, R. Paneer Selvam has been videoed stating that in the event of that materializing, all future Suriya films will not be allowed a release in theaters.

"A news reported in the media startled the theater owners of Tamil Nadu today. We were shocked and saddened by the news that Tamil film Pon Magal Vandhal has been sold directly to OTT (bypassing theatrical release). It's a rule that films that have been produced for movie theaters should first release in them. We strongly condemn that the producer of Pon Magal Vandhal has broken this rule

We contacted the producer to stop him from making this move but he did not agree. In the event of the producer still releasing Ponmagal Vandhal on OTT directly, we let him know that his company (2D Entertainment) and other companies associated with him can release their future movies on OTT directly. It is the collective decision of Tamil Nadu theater owners that we do not require such films."

While it was not explicitly stated what movies/banners will be under jeopardy because of this OTT move, Suriya does have the big-budgeted Soorarai Pottru under his 2D Entertainment banner and his extended family run well known production houses namely Dream Warrior Pictures, Potential Studios (S.R. Prabhu) and Studio Green (Gnanavel Raja) among others.
