Three years ago, director Selvaraghavan had confirmed that he had scripted the sequel to one of his iconic films with his actor-brother Dhanush, Pudhupettai. And with Dhanush confirming last year that the brothers are all set to reunite, fans of the duo were highly anticipating the next announcement. 

Now, in a first official declaration Selvaraghavan has confirmed that the project will be Pudhupettai 2 which will also be the director's next,“I’m revealing for my fans, and because it is the college where I completed my engineering. After NGK, I’m working on a film with Dhanush. As we were discussing on what film it could be, we decided on doing Pudhupettai 2”, the director could be heard saying in a fan-taken video.

Pudhupettai saw Dhanush play a rags to riches gangster and Pudhupettai 2 will officially be the fifth time the actor will be collaborating with his director-brother after Thulluvatho Ilamai, Kadhal Konden, Pudupettai and Mayakkam Enna.
