Pattas is based on Adimurai, Tamil Nadu's version of Kalari!

Dhanush starrer Pattas where he plays dual roles of father and son is two days away from hitting theater screens and Sathya Jyoti Films, producers of the film are leaving no stone unturned to ensure the grand 'Pongal' release [January 15, 2020]. According to the producer Thiyagarajan, the movie is releasing in 1500 theaters in total and comes with 'family-oriented content' sans double meaning dialogues and cringey scenes. 

 

Thiyagarajan has also confirmed [what one saw in the trailer] that the movie is based on an ancient form of combat, Adumurai. "This film is about the art of Adimurai, which existed a thousand years ago. This was the martial art of the Tamils ​​at that time. It is still in practice in the southern districts [like Kanyakumari where it originated]", he has been quoted by Daily Thanthi as saying. 

 

Dhanush plays a master of 'Adimurai', which is more or less Tamil Nadu's Kalari and he and actress Sneha are said to have trained in the art for their respective roles. Pattas directed R.S. Durai Senthilkumar by has been censored with a clean U.
