With the festive season Pongal around the corner, theatre business has already started witnessing a boom in the collections as the films slated for Pongal release have already hit the theatres and are raking in the moolah at the ticket windows. Superstar Rajinikanth's Darbar (Jan 9), Deepika Padukone's Chhapaak (Jan 10), Ajay Devgn's Tanhaji: The unsung warrior (Jan 10), Mahesh Babu's Sarileru Neekevvaru (Jan 11) and Allu Arjun's 'Ala Vaikunthapurramloo'  (Jan 12) have hit the screens this weekend. 

Rajinikanth's 'Darbar' stands tall at the first position by raking in Rs. 7.28 cr while the other films from Hindi and Telugu have dominated the Top 5 list of movies in Chennai city. Darbar is expected to cross milestone Rs. 10 cr mark by Pongal. 

Top 5 at Chennai Box Office (Jan 10 - 12)

1. Darbar - 7.28 cr ( 4 days)

2. Sarileru Neekevvaru - 31 lakhs (2 days)

3. AlaVaikunthapurramloo - 10 lakhs (1 day)

4. Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior - 17 lakhs (3 days)

5. Chhapaak - 11 lakhs (3 days)

Day 1 - Rs. 2.27 cr

Day 2 - Rs. 1.61 cr

Day 3 - Rs. 1.67 cr

Day 4 - Rs. 1.73 cr

Total 4 Days Gross - Rs. 7.28 cr

Darbar is expected to continue its roar at the Chennai Box Office in the coming days. Dhanush starrer Pattas is joining the Pongal race from January 15. The advance booking for the film is currently happening in full swing.
