Believe it or not, political parties have always found a way of giving mileage to Vijay's films and following the nationally debated Mersal and the locally opposed Sarkar, it is now Bigil that has caused the politicians of Tamil Nadu to be at logger-heads once again.
It all started when Vijay spoke of the inaction against the AIADMK leader, whose banner had lead to the unfortunate death of a 23 year old. The actor might have also taken a dig against the capabilities of the ruling government (details here).
Soon-after out-of-the blue incidents like meat sellers tearing up Vijay's film posters and the the venue hosts where Vijay rendered his speech being set up for a formal inquiry, started cropping up. Just when whispers of the ruling party's involvement in this aftermath had started floating around, a Congress party leader has confirmed the same by coming out in support of the actor and his film.
K S Azhagiri, President for Congress in Tamil Nadu has lashed out at the state Higher Education Department's decision to question Sai Ram Engineering College, whose auditorium played host to the audio launch of Bigil and Vijay's statements about the government. Claiming the move to be an 'abuse of power', Azhagiri has said,
"Actor Vijay is a young artist who inspires millions of young people and does not belong to any political party. Vijay's general statements have been misunderstood as a 'dig' by AIADMK minister Jayakumar."
Jayakumar had earlier reacted to Vijay's speech by stating, "To make their film run and recover their invested money, these actors attack us. Don't know what goes in their head after all those heroic actions on screen..They speak whatever comes to their mouth in real life too and their first target is always the ruling government.."
