'Petta is made by fans of Rajinikanth': Highlights from Petta Audio Launch

The audio launch of Petta took place on Sunday at Sri Sai Ram Engineering College, Chennai and at the event some interesting anecdotes about the film and the experience during the film's making were revealed. Here is a look at some of them:

  • Kalanithi Maran: "There are many star hotels in Varanasi. But instead of staying there, Rajni stayed in a normal hotel. The term 'Superstar' is synonymous only with Rajini. No one can come to that place hereon."  [Full Speech Here]

 

  • Rajinikanth: "Karthik Subbaraj has taken me back to the 80s..He asked me to do things that I did when I was 30 or 40 years old.”  [Full Speech Here]

 

  • Karthik Subbaraj: “I had narrated the story (Petta) to him (Rajinikanth) in 2015 but it had to wait since he went on to do Kaala and then later announced his political entry..Petta is made by fans of Rajinikanth..Vijay Sethupathi is also a big Rajinikanth fan. He told me that one day I will direct Rajinikanth sir in a film. And when it happens, he will play the villain in the project." [Full Speech Here]

 

  • It was confirmed during the event that actor Vijay Sethupathi is donning the villain role in Petta. The actor who is known for playing leads had this to say on him taking up the role: “Only if you stand against a big figure can you become great,” [Full Speech Here]

Petta which has Rajinikanth playing an aged gangster, also stars Sasikumar [Speech Video Here], Nawazzudin Siddiqui [Full Speech Here] as Singaar Singh, Trisha [Speech Video Here] as Rajinikanth's early life love interest and Simran [Speech Video Here] possibly during the later stage (going by the film's character posters). The movie has music by Anirudh and is scheduled for a Pongal release in 2019.
