Vetrimaaran’s long delayed gangster drama 'Vada Chennai' starring Dhanush in the lead role hit the screens worldwide on October 17, 2018. The estimated gross at the overseas box office is around Rs. 11.5 - 12 crore. The film has done good business in USA, UAE and Malaysia.

USA - $361,133 [Rs. 2.66 cr]

Australia - A$110,907 [Rs. 57.75 L]

UK - £ 61,083 [Rs. 57.53 L]

Singapore - $179,360 [Rs. 0.95 cr]

Malaysia - Rs. 1.75 cr

UAE / GCC - Rs. 3.37 cr

The film performed well at the Box Office in its opening week due to positive word-of-mouth and 5 days extended weekend (pooja holidays). The collection has witnessed a sharp decline in its second week as the intended audience for the film's genre have done watching the film. Due to 'A' certification and violent content, the film received minuscule family audience support which is one of the reasons for less footfalls in the second week despite good word-of-mouth.

With the collections witnessing a dip and Diwali releases lined up for release next week, we need to see if the film will achieve break-even mark at the end of its theatrical run given that the film has to make a revenue of Rs. 40+ crore in TN.
