Madras HC directs TN Govt to not allow more than 5 shows in Movie Theatres!

On Tuesday, the Madras High Court ordered the Tamil Nadu government officials to take action against movie theaters that screened more than 5 shows in non-compliance with the Tamil Nadu Cinemas (Regulation) Act of 1955.

The order was passed after a PIL petition was filed by one G. Devarajan, who accused cinema halls of playing extra shows regularly, including the early morning 5 am and 1 am shows. He had mentioned in his complaint that during the release of movies like SeemarajaSaamy Square and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam, ticket bookings were open for 5 am slots.

Following this, the court observing that movie theaters are allowed to have only one extra show (other than the usual 4 shows), that too during public holidays and after getting prior permission. The court then ordered the concerned officials to take appropriate measures if the said complaint was found to be true.
