Sarkar Plagiarism row: Madras HC enables the film's Diwali release!

Yesterday, we reported about how a writer and assistant director by the name Varun Rajendran has come forward with a claim that Sarkar's story is a replica of his own script Sengol. After the South Indian Film Writers Association concluded that both A.R. Murugadoss' and Varun Rajendran's script were similar, Varun Rajendran moved high court demanding due credit in the Sarkar's title card and a compensation of Rs. 30 lakh.

However, since Sun Pictures, producers of the film had already filed caveat (a motion that prohibits any action without Sun Pictures being kept in the loop), justice M Sundar on Wednesday instructed Varun's lawyers put Sun Pictures on notice. The court also announced that a plea hearing will be held today on the case.

//Update: The High Court has now heard the case and refused for a ban on the film's Diwali release. However a further hearing on the case will be held on October 30, 2018
