Movies This Week: Andhadhun, 96, Ratsasan top the list of good films!

The bygone week of good films has been followed up by another bunch of quality film releases and here is a look at some of them:

  • 96 (Tamil): Two ex-flames meeting at a school reunion after 22 years is the base plot of the film, which has been unanimously well received all over and is this week's top recommendation for a theater watch. An out and out romantic film, 96 stars Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha and is directed by cinematographer turned director Prem Kumar. (Review here)

  • Ratsasan(Tamil)A thriller with a newbie cop and a serial killer targeting school girls, Ratsasan is one of Vishnu Vishal's good movies. The movie has been well made and is a must watch if you enjoy watching thrillers. (Review here)

  • NOTA (Tamil/Telugu)A Tamil-Telugu bilingual, NOTA is a politically laden film and follows what happens when a happy-go-lucky youngster is made CM of a state out of the blue. Though it has the uber popular Vijay Deverakonda as its face, the movie has opened to mixed reviews and has been passed off as just about an average watch though Deverakonda's performance has been lauded. • Crazy Rich Asians (English): The super-hit romantic comedy of the West has made its way into the theatres of India and has impressed the viewers here as well. The movie is about a girl who decides to accompany her long-time relationship partner to a wedding and is met with the truths of his family, background and other quirks. It can be watched if you are in a mood for some escapism and visually rich fun.

  • Venom (English):The super-villain that made its first appearance in Spider Man 3 (2007) is back with a movie of its own. However, the Tom Hardy starrer is not upto a good start and has only gained average to mixed responses so far. Venom has Tom Hardy playing a journalist who is accidentally infected by a parasite, which brings out his vicious side.

  • Andhadhun (Hindi):Another engaging thriller this week, Andhadhun is inspired from a French film by the name L'Accordeur (The Piano Tuner in English) and stars Ayushman Khurana as a blind pianist. The movie follows the story of what happens when the blind hero tries to report a murder and has been brilliantly made by Sriram Raghavan. A must watch this weekend. (Review Here)

  • Love Yatri (Hindi):The film is about a young boy who dreams of becoming a garba teacher and falls in love with an NRI girl. The simple romantic tale has been criticized for missing the 'zing' factor and is the only below average film this week. Love Yatri starrs new faces Aayush Sharma (Salman Khan's brother-in-law) and Warina Hussain.

  • Mandharam (Malayalam):Asif Ali plays a loverboy who meets with a series of heart-breaks before finding 'the one' in this film called Mandharam. The movie has nothing much to offer other than how Asif Ali ends up finding his true love and is a modern day film which has silently made its way into theatre screens.
