96 release controversy: What went down among Vijay Sethupathi, Vishal & the producer?

Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha starrer 96 has been unanimously praised by critics all over and is even raking moolah at the box-office (opening day collection report here). However, the film is still in the news for the pre-release issue it faced yesterday (early morning shows of the film were cancelled).

Media reports suggested that the cancellation of shows were caused as producer of the film, Nanthagopal of Madras Enterprises, faced last minute financial troubles which resulted in the non-issue of KDM to movie theatres. They also reported that only after Vijay Sethupathi intervened and took responsibility of the financial issues, did the movie make it to the theater screens by 10 AM.

Following this chaos, an audio message of producer Sathish started doing the rounds which suggested that actor Vishal was the reason behind the delay of 96. Sathish had said,

"The film 96 had not been screened because of an issue between film Producer Nandagopal and Vishal. If there is such a problem, Vishal should have thought of an alternative route. In this issue, Vijay Sethupathi has said that he would give Rs. 1 crore. The President of a producers' association being an obstacle for a film's release is not good. It is also said that Nanda Gopal was made to sign on the blank paper. This action is also of condemnation. Vishal should clarify his position in this matter."

Now media reports have quoted a statement from Vishal's side which goes as follows:

"Mr. Vishal continues to experience many pains in financial matters. He did not want to give such a pain to actor Vijay Sethupathi. He was not sleeping after the incident last night. So, he does not want Vijay Sethupathi to give Rs.1.50 crores to him. Vishal will accept responsibility for it again. Rs 1.50 crore, which was lent to Mr. Nandagopal from finance through Vishal (during the film Kaththi Sandai) will be received back from Mr. Nandagopal himself. Until then, Vishal will pay interest to that amount."
