Superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie has delivered a massive opening weekend worldwide, with Comscore estimates placing its 4-day gross at $45.33 million (approx. Rs. 397.5 crore). With this momentum, the film is on course to cross the Rs. 400 crore worldwide mark today (Day 5), further consolidating its position as one of the biggest Tamil grossers of the year.
In India, Coolie continues to dominate the Tamil Nadu market, where Rajinikanth’s stardom and the Lokesh Kanagaraj brand have kept the momentum high. Despite mixed word of mouth, major centres remained housefull through the weekend, aided by the extended 4-day holiday frame. However, collections in some neighbouring states showed a slight dip on Sunday, making Monday the true litmus test as regular weekday trends kick in without any festive boost.
Overseas markets have been a strong pillar for the film, contributing significantly to its worldwide total. Trade expects certain territories to emerge profitable in the long run, even if the initial surge stabilises in the coming days.
A Sun Pictures production, Coolie marks the maiden collaboration between Rajinikanth and director Lokesh Kanagaraj. The action thriller comes with a PAN-Indian ensemble featuring Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Upendra, Shruthi Haasan, Sathyaraj, and Pooja Hegde, and released worldwide on August 14, 2025 in five languages.
