As reported earlier, Vijay's blockbuster film Mersal is all set to release in China by the end of this year. China’s HGC Entertainment has acquired the distribution rights of the film. Mersal will be dubbed in Mandarin and released in China. According to reports, Mersal will release in over 10000 screens in China. HGC Entertainment is planning to release the film on December 6, 2018. It will be one of the first Tamil films to release in China. 

The film directed by Atlee is produced by Thenandal Studio Limited. Vijay plays a triple role in the film. Samantha Akkineni, Kajal Aggarwal and Nithya Menen play the leading ladies. Music by A R Rahman. 

Indian films are rapidly gaining a new, fast-growing audience in China. Earlier Baahubali 2: The Conclusion had released in over 8000 screens in China. Six Indian movies including Secret Superstar, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hindi Medium, Baahubali: The Conclusion, Sultan and Toilet: Ek Prem Katha have released in China so far. Aamir Khan's Secret Superstar is the highest grossing film in China which earned around Rs 810 crore.
