Movies This Week: Non-Tamil releases dominate yet again!

Ever since the TFPC Strike ended, the Tamil movies that have come out hardly made any lasting impact and even when reprise was found in above average movies like Irumbu Thirai or Iravukku Aayiram Kangal, other language movies both domestic and international, walked away with a larger impact. This week is no different for Marvel's Deadpool 2 seems to dominate the movie scene at Chennai, closely followed by the released earlier this month but just hitting Chennai screens Malayalam movie Ee.Ma.Yau. A look into options this week:

Deadpool 2
Marvel sure is banking all the attention and success it received for Avengers: Infinity War by following it up with the sequel its highly popular franchise. The sequel seems to have impressed everyone way more than the first movie or so the general opinion goes. Deadpool 2 is set a few years after the prequel and has Wade Wilson, Colossus and the X-men protecting a mutant named Russel from the villain Cable. The movie tops our recommendation list for this week's must-watch.

A remake of a Malayalam hit film, Bhaskar Oru Rascal is about kids of two single parents playing cupid to bring them together. The movie has been off to an average start (the multiple delays in their release plans might have something to do with it) and despite a name like Siddique being credited for direction, the film has mostly received lukewarm response. If you have watched Vijay Antony's Saithaan, then you will find a similarity it shares with his latest Kaali. The movie has Vijay Antony playing a doctor from New York who is disturbed by recurring dreams and sets out to trace his roots. The film makes for a decent watch for it has a lot of positive aspects like music, cinematography and comedy. (Review here)

High Jack
Produced by stalwarts like Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Behl, Vikramaditya Motwane and Madhu Mantena, High Jack is is about employees of an airline hijacking a plane but inadvertently ending up intoxicated with drugs along with the passengers. Stoner comedies from Bollywood are generally well received, but this Sumeet Vyas starrer doesn't seem off to a very good start.

After raking in the moolah and awards at Kerala, Lijo Jose Pellissery directed satire Ee. Ma. Yau starring Chemban Vinod Jose is finally out for the rest of the world to see. The film revolves around the death of Vavachan Mesthiri (Chemban Vinod's father in the movie) and showcases the events that unfold his death from different perspectives.

Other relatively lesser known films that have made it to theatre screens this week are the Ilayaraja musical 18/05/2009 (Tamil), a romantic drama titled Seyal (Tamil) which has Siddharth Vipin for the music and the comedy caper Khajoor Pe Atke(Hindi)

MC Pick: Deadpool 2, Ee.Ma.Yau
