Bhaskar Oru Rascal Review-Too much for too little!!!

Bhaskar Oru Rascal – Too much for too little!!!

Bharath Vijayakumar

When a fun film does not take itself seriously and knows exactly what it had set out to do it can work wonders. Bhaskar Oru Rascal does begin like that. The titular character is someone who wears a nonchalant attitude but is also hot headed. Arvind Swamy makes us buy into this character and a substantial portion of the first half works purely because he seems to have had a ball. But there is simply too much damage happening around him.

The film is about the kids of a widower and a widow trying to play cupid between them. The entire first half is about how Bhaskar's impulsive behaviour keeps getting everyone around him in trouble and some of this is fun. I really think this much of a plot should have been enough to make a crisp comedy. But Siddique wants to bloat up things and we have a villain introduced and from thereon the film keeps treading downhill. We have a flimsy flashback, some atrociously shot fight sequences aided by pathetic CG and outdated sentimental scenes that keep pulling this film down and down.

Apart from Arvind Swamy (and Nasser ) the rest of the cast are pedestrian at best. The casting of the bad men gives the film a dubbed feel.It is not that we cannot have a 90s style masala film now. The basics actually do not change but there needs to be some modifications that you need to make. The most prominent being the ability to not take things too seriously when you are essentially making a comedy.

Bottomline

What should have been a lightweight and harmless fun film turns into a pointless and tedious  one towards the end. But Arvind Swamy does make some amends.
