With the TPFC strike coming to an end after 48 days, Tamil films are all set to rule the Chennai box office once again. Karthik Subbaraj’s Mercury was the first and only Tamil film to hit the screens last Friday (April 20) and the film is estimated to gross around Rs. 1 Crore from the opening weekend at the Chennai city box-office alone

The film which had a worldwide release earlier on April 13 except Tamil Nadu due to the strike has opened at No. 1 position in the Chennai city box office table, while Mahesh Babu's Bharat Ane Nenu opened at No. 2 with an estimated gross collection of Rs. 80 Lakh from the opening weekend.

With upcoming movies such as Al Vijay's Diya (formerly Karu), Vikram Prabhu starrer Pakka and Aravind Swamy's Bhaskar Oru Rascal all set to hit the screens by April 27 along with International film Avengers: Infinity War, theatre owners in the city are expecting to recover their business after a dry spell at the Tamil box-office.
