Preview and Mind Share of Pongal Movie Releases

With Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam getting postponed, five films are hitting the screens during Pongal holidays. Alex Pandian, Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya and Samar are expected to bag most number of screens. Two small films, Puthagam and Vijayanagaram are also sneaking in for Pongal.

Alex Pandian

Karthi’s Alex Pandian, directed by Suraj, will get the early bird advantage as the movie releases on January 11. The movie is being vigorously promoted by Studio Green and one can expect the movie to take a bumper opening and free run during the long festival weekend. Going by the trailers and teasers, the movie is going to be a run-off-the-mill entertainer. Karthi is looking for a hit after his last film Saguni’s dismal show at the box office. 

USP: Mass masala mixture of action + drama + emotion + comedy + love + drama 

Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya (KLTA) 

Santhanam’s Kanna Laddu Thinna Aasaiya is hitting the screens on January 13. The movie has generated a lot of positive buzz. The film also marks the debut of Santhanam as a producer. ‘Red Giant Movies’ banner is distributing the movie and they are ensuring the movie to get adequate screens and reach. The movie is expected to be loosely inspired by Bhagyaraj's "Indru Poi Naalai Vaa". One can expect Santhanam and Powerstar Srinivasan to bring the house down with their witty one-liners. Music scored by Thaman has not made much impact so far.

Samar 

Samar has joined the Pongal race last-minute after Vishwaroopam’s release got postponed. The movie is expected to release on January 13^th along with KLTA. Directed by Thiru, the movie has Vishal and Trisha in the lead roles. The movie is expected to be an action thriller. The buzz is very weak with only half of mind share for Alex Pandian and KLTA. Vishal is looking for a break desperately as many of his previous movies have bombed at the box office. Azhago Azhagu song by Yuvan Shankar Raja has made some impact.

Puthagam

Popular television actor Vijay Adiraj is making his directorial debut on the big screens with ‘Puthagam’. Arya’s brother Sathya is playing the lead role in the film. Music is scored by James Vasanthan. Movie is set to release on January 14. The buzz for the film is negligibly low and only positive word of mouth can help the movie to even get noticed at the box office.

Vijayanagaram

A lesser known film, Vijayanagaram is also releasing on January 14. Directed by Thanveer, the movie is touted to be college story. Newcomers are playing the lead roles.
